Our Design Process

A design, build, and remodel project can take months to complete from start to finish, which is why we want you to have clear expectations. To give you a window into what Nicholson Builders offers in terms of depth and detail, we’ve outlined the steps below for a short summary of each stage.

1.Introductions

In most cases, this is a simple phone call so we can understand the project and what you’d like to achieve.

You’ll speak with one of our professionals and if mutually agreed, arrangements will be made for a home visit.

2. Home Visit

A visit to your home will give us the opportunity to meet with you in person. Standing in the physical space we will be able to discuss the specific needs or goals for your project and explain our process in greater detail. While on site we will take down additional information, share ideas, and potentially discuss budget ranges.

3. Design Retainer

After visiting your home, we will put together a design retainer based on the proposed areas of work. This agreement will specify what is to be designed and approximate budget ranges for each phase or area.

4. Measuring

Should you choose to partner with us through a design retainer, we will schedule one of our in-house designers to come out to your home and go through a detailed step by step checklist. During this visit we will take precise measurements, photos, and notes specific to the spaces being remodeled.

5. Design

Our design team will take you through a design process that typically includes computer aided drawings and 3-D renderings. Visits to our design center and local showrooms will help complete the material selections process. We will be in frequent communication to update you on progress and schedule meetings to review revised drawings and materials.

6. Estimating

After successfully completing a design that meets your objectives, we will commence with the final estimate. During this phase we will calculate materials and verify final costs with our trusted trade partners. A meeting will then be scheduled to review a fixed cost proposal and discuss the next steps.

7. Construction

Upon acceptance of the proposal, we will begin working behind the scenes to prepare everything necessary for a successful project start. Throughout the construction process, our project manager, design consultant, and interior designer will be in contact with you regarding the multiple facets of your project. We will strive to make sure you receive the best remodeling experience available. We’re happy to make changes on the fly; what’s important to us is that you get exactly what you want at the completion of the project.

8. Warranty

Warranty commences at completion of the project. Officially all work is warranted for a period of one year. However, it is not uncommon for us to respond to needs that may arise many years past the original warranty time-frame. We believe strongly in standing behind what we build. Period.
